TLC turns 10 and Launches a Celebration of Cambodian Families

Happy birthday to us! Unbelievably, This Life Cambodia is turning ten years old. To mark the occasion, we are launching something new and exciting, a 5 week celebration of Cambodian families on our Facebook page. Everyone is invited to join the party, by submitting their own family memories, stories and thoughts.

Why families? Because, ten years ago, I was approached by a group of Cambodians in Siem Reap who had dreams for their community. They were parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts who knew exactly what their children needed, but didn’t have the resources to make it happen. This Life Cambodia was born in that moment: connecting families and communities with the things they need to improve their own lives.

A lot has changed, for Cambodia and for us, but families have always been at the heart of our work, just as they’re at the heart of Cambodian life. That’s why for our ten year anniversary we don’t want to talk about us – we want to hear from all of you. One lucky contributor will win a mini digital camera to capture future family memories, while someone who shares one of these posts will also win a digital photo frame.

It’s very simple to take part. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page. If you see a family story you like, please share it. Or, even better, contribute one of your own. Do you have a hero in your family, someone who inspires you or has made great sacrifices? Is there a child in your family you have high hopes for – what is your dream for them? Is there a family member you have lost who you would like to tell the world about? Whatever you have to say, we want to hear it.

If you are using a mobile device, simply go to our Facebook page and find the tab titled “POSTS”, which you will find to the right hand side of the “HOME” tab. Here you will find a blank space inviting you to “write something on this page…”. Now write a few words – in English or Khmer – and post a photo or even a video illustrating your thoughts on family.

If you are using a laptop or PC it’s even easier. Simply go to the top of our Facebook page and find the blank space asking you to “write something here” and add your photograph or video here – it’s just like posting on your own page! Get as creative as you like! After you submit your post, it will be checked by our team and will then appear as a visitor post or on our main page, for the world to see. Please add a hashtag: #TLCFamilyPortraits

We really want as many people as possible to take part, no matter where you live. Please write in Khmer or English or both, whichever you feel most comfortable with. If you don’t want to write, sometimes a simple picture or a short video can say more than words. To see what others have sent us, please go to Facebook and search for #TLCFamilyPortraits. We can’t wait to hear your stories.
