Our 10 year celebrations

10 Year Anniversary

For 10 years, This Life Cambodia has been working to strengthen families and keep them together. That’s why, to mark our 10th anniversary, we launched a celebration of Cambodian families called “Family Portraits”. For five weeks we turned our Facebook page over to the Cambodian public and invited everyone to share stories and photos about their families – stories of challenges overcome, hopes for the future, dreams achieved and dreams yet to be fulfilled.

We wanted to celebrate the families and children who have been at the core of our work for ten years. We wanted to overcome the often misleading image of Cambodian families, particularly internationally, and show what we often experience – which is that family is the cornerstone of Cambodian society. And finally we wanted to provide a platform for Cambodians to speak in their own words about family bonds, support and love.

In five weeks we reached over 800,000 people, over 100 people submitted their family stories and more than 325,000 comments and reactions were posted. You can see these stories on Facebook (#TLCFamilyPortraits) or view this short video featuring 10 of our favorite tales. Though the campaign is over, we decided to keep the momentum going by creating “Family Friday” where we will continue to post one family story each week.

We were fortunate to enlist the participation of several Cambodian celebrities including musicians, actors and prominent social media stars. However, we were especially grateful and inspired by the video that revered monk Kou Sopheap made for this campaign in which he talks about the importance of family, education and the bonds between children and parents.
