Can you help a family in Cambodia?

Many families in Cambodia have been living in extreme poverty for a long time. While nationally there have been relatively few cases of COVID-19, Cambodian people are vulnerable to the economic impact of the pandemic.

The situation in Cambodia is getting worse every day. Families in Cambodia are facing huge challenges right now and we’re asking for your help. Due to the downturn in tourism, construction, and export sectors, the average monthly income has plummeted. In many cases, families are living on less than $50 so it’s no surprise that food has become the most urgent need.

$38 buys enough food to feed a family for one month.

Soursdey’s story

Soursdey is a 15-year-old boy living with his family in Siem Reap province. We support his family in a number of different ways, but recently their situation has become desperate. Soursdey dreams of being a teacher one day, but those dreams are fading.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Soursdey’s mother was a cook at a local restaurant earning a wage of $100 per month. His stepfather was a construction worker earning  $10 per day. Due to the economic challenges of COVID-19, both his mother and his stepfather lost their jobs.

Soursdey’s mother has been able to find a part-time position as a daycare provider, but her wage is now just $50 per month. This is the entire family’s only income.

We have been providing a monthly emergency food package to Soursdey’s family. Unfortunately, stories like Soursdey’s are common. Unemployment and the inability to service microfinance debt are causing increasing family distress. That’s why we’re asking you to DONATE 38.
